6 Healthy Ways to Spend Your Tax Refund
If you are getting a tax refund this year (yay abundance!), think about ways that you can spend your refund on items that will feed your soul and help keep you healthy.
When we spend our money on daily activities that are guided by our values and passions (instead of our need for material possessions), it is typically more rewarding. For example, when we spend our money on things that align with our goals and purpose, instead of blowing it on a wild night out at the bars, it typically results in more happiness and fulfillment in our lives, especially if we are spending it on experiences and items that keep us healthy, rather than random material objects.
Here are 6 ways that you can enhance your fulfillment and spend your tax refund in a healthy way this year:
1. Take a vacation with your intimate partner
With all of the responsibilities of life, it is easy to get so busy that you don’t prioritize your intimate relationship as much as you would like to anymore. It’s easy to convince yourself that quality time means having a glass of wine and watching your favorite show on Netflix together before going to bed.
While Netflix shows are great – they aren’t fulfilling in the long run and don’t lead to deeper intimacy, communication and fun with your partner.
However, it doesn’t have to be this way. Use your tax refund to get away with your partner so that you can focus on each other and leave all of the “to-do’s” at home. Whether it is a couple’s retreat, a long weekend away without the kids, or a trip abroad – you’ll be glad that you took the time away to disconnect from everything back at home and reconnect with each other to fall in love all over again.
2. Volunteer Abroad
Volunteering abroad is a great opportunity to experience new cultures, immerse yourself in new environments and make new friends with locals while learning about causes you support. It can provide the opportunity for you to share your skills, while learning new ones, improving your resume and learning a new language. At the same time, you get to give back and ensure that a community benefits from your participation. Volunteering abroad can last anywhere from one week to multiple months. To ensure that the community you are volunteering with genuinely benefits from your participation, look for reputable volunteer companies such as Kaya Responsible Travel or find multiple trustworthy organizations via GoAbroad Volunteer.
3. Hire a Life Coach
People hear of coaching when they think of sports, or actors, or musicians. These are the kinds of people who hire coaches because they want their work to be extraordinary instead of just ok. Life coaching is the same way – when you have a really good coach, your skills at life improve so that you are living an extraordinary life instead of one that is just ok. Just as a professional athlete hires a coach so that they can be the best at their sport – people hire life coaches to help enhance their relationships, create jobs and businesses they love and step into living the authentic, successful life they have always dreamed of.
A Life Coach is someone who believes in you and holds you accountable to a bigger vision. They don’t believe in your fears or limiting stories that you tell yourself, which allows you to achieve your goals and dreams just that much faster than you would be able to do on your own.
4. Sign up for a local CSA Membership
Eat healthy this summer by joining a local CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) in your area. Typically, CSA members receive weekly shares of produce from a farm (or farms) in their area from the spring into fall. It is a fun way to get your fruits and veggies when they are in season and find creative ways to cook with them. It’s also a great way to support local farmers and learn about where your food is coming from. Did you get an extra big tax refund this year? Then add on to your share and sign up to receive fresh eggs, meats and cheese as well!
5. Purchase those fancy kitchen tools you’ve always wanted that help make your life easier and healthier
Spending money on high end kitchen tools is worth it when you are wanting to eat healthy and save time while doing it. There are also health benefits in investing in things like high-powered blenders (such as a Vitamix or Blendtec) or a slow masticating juicer (such as a Breville) as these items help to break down your food in a way that the nutrients are easily absorbable by your body. Other tools such as the InstaPot help to make fast, healthy meals in a way that doesn’t take as much effort and time as other methods, which helps to remove the excuses as to why you don’t have time to eat healthy.
If your health is one of your top priorities in your life, then it’s worth it to invest in kitchen tools that make it easier to prepare the food your body needs to stay healthy!
6. Purchase those amazing facial products/essential oils/protein shakes that all of your friends are sharing about on Facebook.
You know that you’ve seen them all over Facebook and are super curious about these products, but have never actually taken the plunge. However, you know that if you invested in these products it would help make you healthier and feel so much better about yourself.
One of these products that I love are doTERRA essential oils. We are obsessed with these in our house. I use them from everything to boosting my immunity, enhancing my mood and even as natural cleaners throughout our house. We use them daily and I couldn’t imagine our lives without them!
Another product that you’ve probably been seeing a lot lately is Rodan and Fields which is an incredible line of skincare products. They help with everything from wrinkles, to adult acne, to helping your eye lashes grow. And their line of products work. Sure, it’s a little bit more pricy than what you can get at Walgreens – but the quality is worth it and you’ll definitely see the difference in your skin. And with that tax refund that you’ll be getting – might as well spend it on having amazing skin throughout the rest of 2018!
Beachbody and Shakeology is another product that has been flooding my Facebook feed lately – but I love it because it helps me get my workouts done in 30 minutes or less and when you purchase Shakeology (a high nutrient protein shake), you get a free fitness coach that comes along with it. It’s a win/win. I’m all for utilizing my time wisely and not having to spend time to driving to a gym, which is why I enjoy working out at home.
So if you’ve been eyeing up these products (or others!) consider using part of your tax refund to get you started on a healthy kick and just say yes to trying these items that your friends love so much.
As humans we become the accumulation of the places we have gone, the things we have experienced and the people we have met along the way. So as you get ready to spend your tax refund this year, think about spending it in ways that will enhance you are as a human instead of blowing it on something useless that you won’t even remember next year. And remember to be grateful for all of the abundance that you already have in your life, and all of the abundance that you can trust is on it’s way.
