A Prayer for World Peace
In light of the recent terrorist attacks on Beirut, Paris, and Kenya, I am left wondering what I can do to help. Sure, I could change my Facebook picture to show solidarity to France – but what really does that do for our world to have our Facebook pictures tinted with the French flag on them? And what does this mean to the countries of Lebanon or Kenya who also just recently suffered tremendous loss? It feels a little trendy, and in the light of what just happened it doesn’t feel like enough to me.
So as I was meditating this morning, what I realized may be more helpful is if we were to start a world peace prayer. For all of us who choose to, to stand tall as Peacemakers. To send love and light to the victims and the terrorists – for peace is the cessation of againstness. For as we cease being against, and we stand in love and light and liberty, we will have a bigger communal impact on this world than if we were to stay in upset and hatred for what just happened. Because we don’t get to the road of peace, by traveling the path of anger and revenge.
My spiritual teacher John Roger said “Let there be peace on earth, and let it being with me.”
Meaning whenever we hear of any negativity, such as what has happened in the past few days, instead of condemning it and the people involved, we can send love and light to everyone – including to those who created the violence. One of the easiest ways I’ve found to start adding peace to a situation is to inwardly chant this simple prayer that goes “I love you, God Bless you, Peace, be still.” That’s it. It’s so simple, yet so profound.
The Institute for Individual and World Peace uses that phrase as a world peace prayer that they chant. They say:
“Whenever you tune in, we are all there together, regardless of time zones. See us standing around the planet with other Peacemakers chanting
‘I Love You,
God Bless You,
Peace, Be Still.’
Check your own levels to clear and cease any againstness you may be running. Envision a dawning of peace taking place in the hearts of people throughout the world.”
And so I encourage us all to say this prayer as way to start to shift the energy from againstness to peace. I’ve already started today; will you join me?
“Keep the Peace
Keep the Harmony
Keep the Balance
Keep Moving On…..no matter what…..
For this is our genetic right,
And what choice do we have but to go on?” – John Roger
